2 Killed Over Death Of Undergraduate, Accused Of Witchcraft

Two persons, accused of being involved in witchcraft, were

beaten to death over the mysterious demise of a 400 level

undergraduate of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria,

Allahmagani Reuben.

Yohanna Kaburat and Kaburat Adang, who are uncle and

grand father to Allahmagani, respectively, were killed by

youths of Hurgyam in Ayagan District of Zangon Kataf Local

government Area of Kaduna State for allegedly

masterminding the death of Allahmagani through witchcraft.

The incident happened on Saturday night, July 2, 2016.

Youths of the community, it was gathered, went angry when

they discovered that the 400 level student, fell sick and died

a week after.

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that the two men who were

accused of killing their relation were apprehended and

locked up in the same room with the corpse of

Allahmagani, by the angry youths who insisted they must

bring the dead body back to life.

"Reuben's uncle, Yohanna Kaburat and grand father Kaburat

Adang, accused of witchcraft were killed for allegedly been

responsible for the death of the boy," a resident told

LEADERSHIP Sunday.

Another resident, Bala Garba, said "when the boy died, the

youths and some elderly persons in the community said

they won't accept such a sudden death. So, they locked up

the uncle and grandfather of the deceased inside a room

with the mandate that they must revive the dead body. At

night, when the youths of the community realised that the

two men were unable to revive the boy, they beat them to

death. All of them were buried on Thursday 7 July 2016" .

The acting District Head of the community, Sunday Madaki,

who expressed shock over the incident, said he prayed God

not to allow them see such a 'calamity' again.

Madaki, who cautioned the people of the area against

taking laws into their hands, added that he won't want to

hear something of such.

Even though arrest has not been made concerning the

killings, it was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer

(DPO) in charge of the area has ordered all village heads to

produce the suspects that participated in the killing.
